Environmental Study Should Be Conducted Before Reactivation

To the Editor.
William Wright's loyalties to the politicians and M & E freight rail executives mar his judgment of problems created by M & E's freight train reactivation. Union County politicians have a shady history regarding this deal with Gordon Fuller and M & E.
A no-bid contract was signed at the same time citizens were receiving letters from politicians claiming they don't support this freight train reactivation. Copies of these letters can be found on the web site listed below. - See exampleğ
County Manager Devanney's letter about M & E track activity is posted: "This activity may give the appearance that rail service has been restored. However, this is a routine maintenance procedure and should not be viewed as a precursor to the start up of rail service."
Taxpayers pay Devanney close to one hundred and fifty thousand dollars a year for this "service." Wright knows taxpayers are paying for this "economic development" project.
I was on a committee that reviewed vouchers paid to M & E by Union County. Items ranging from weed wackers to renting M & E equipment for M & E jobs done on the line by M & E workers are paid for by the County.
So far, what does the county get for M & E's use of this track that runs from Linden to Summit? Seventeen cents a month. M & E pre-paid the twenty bucks for the 10-year period with an option to renew. Did Wright question his Board of Freeholders about this reactivation without the required Environmental Impact Study?
An Environmental Justice Petition regarding this reactivation can be read on site
www.stopthetrain.org..I am tired of the fact manipulations perpetrated by Wright and his handlers.
